Nick Rosenow was not only a member of the Carstens Farm Board of Directors; he was a big supporter of the Farm, always lending a hand when needed and always promoting the Farm. Sadly, Nick passed away in May, 2009.
Saturday, June 12, 2010 began what we hope will become an annual event at Carstens Farm.
Despite the rain that had fallen earlier and the threat of more rain to come, 34 tractors gathered at the Farm on the morning of June 12, 2010. Thanks to the Rosenow family, everyone enjoyed coffee, rolls, juice and coffee, and they took advantage of the opportunity to visit and dish out their share of good-natured ribbing about whose tractor was the best while they waited for the latest shower to move out of the area.
The tractors left the Farm about 9:30. With Nick's son, Rod Rosenow, leading, they headed into Minden on Tamarack Road. From Minden, they continued on Tamarack Road to Highway 191 and then headed to Persia. Following lunch provided by the Rosenow family at the Persia Park, everyone got back on their tractors and, with Nick's grandson, Nick Rosenow, in the lead, they headed to Portsmouth. Then taking Highway 44 to M-16, they came back through Tenant and Shelby, arriving back at Carstens Farm about 2:30.
A number of Nick's family members made the trip from eastern Iowa (and even the Chicago area), bringing tractors to join in on the ride. Many other family members and friends climbed onto the people mover and enjoyed the ride.
Nick's grandson, Clint Robinson, was riding in the last tractor that provided flashing lights and safety for the tractor drivers and said, "This is FUN!"
The Rosenow Family
A good time was had by all, many memories of Nick were revisited and many stories were told. It was a very fitting memorial to Nick's favorite past-times: riding tractors and enjoying family and friends.
